Grameen Shakti

Grameen Shakti is a social enterprise with headquarters in Bangladesh that specializes in offering rural populations sustainable energy options. It was established in 1996 as a subsidiary of Grameen Bank, a trailblazing microfinance organization. Grameen Shakti promotes sustainable energy practices with the goal of reducing poverty and enhancing rural households' quality of life.

The organization's main goal is to bring low-cost, eco-friendly energy solutions to Bangladesh's rural, off-grid communities. They are experts in setting up and maintaining solar home systems (SHS), which are small-scale solar power systems that supply electricity for necessities like lighting and small appliances.

Grameen Shakti runs its business with a decentralized strategy. It educates and empowers locals to become technicians who can install, maintain, and repair solar systems. These individuals are referred to as "Grameen Shakti Surya Roshis" (GSSRs). This strategy not only ensures the sustainability and lifespan of the systems but also generates employment possibilities.

Numerous rural homes in need of clean, sustainable energy have benefited from the organization's efforts, which have helped them become less reliant on conventional energy sources like kerosene lamps and diesel generators.
