Mirzapur Cadet College
On the Dhaka-Tangail Trank Road PO: Mirzapur Cadet College Union: Gorai Upazilla: Mirzapur Tangail, 1942
On November 29, 1963, the Momenshahi Cadet College's foundation stone was placed in the Mirzapur Upazila of Bangladesh's Mymensingh District (now Tangail District) by Field Marshal Ayub Khan, the then-president of Pakistan. The main academic building of the college still bears the original foundation stone.
The college was formally inaugurated on January 9, 1965, by Major General Fazle Mukim Khan. Mr. Michael William Pitt served as the inaugural principal. With the introduction of Classes 7, 8, and 9, academic activities began that year.
Following the lecture on March 7, a violent procession led by an enraged crowd entered the college campus on March 8. All of the cadets were then sent home after the college's closure by principal Wong Comd Sulaiman Haider Kayani. The institution was inaugurated in the first week of November 1971, during the Liberation War, with Mr. Wahab serving as interim principal.
For the 50 spots available, at least 900 7th graders compete each year. There are now other cadet colleges. Twelve cadet colleges exist now, three of which are exclusively for female students.
