RUET

The second-oldest and most prestigious public engineering university in Bangladesh, Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), provides high-quality instruction and research in the engineering and technology fields. Rajshahi Engineering College was founded in 1964 and initially housed three engineering departments: mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and civil engineering. Twelve students (122) were enrolled in the institute's first bachelor's degree program across three disciplines. To improve technical education, it was later transformed into the Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Rajshahi, in 1986. In order to improve technical education and research, the institution was elevated to become Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) in September 2003. Through the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, the government provides funding for the university. The Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology Act of 2003 governs the university, which is a stand-alone statutory entity of the Government of Bangladesh. The university currently has 14 departments, including ones for engineering and the sciences, that grant undergraduate and graduate degrees. Through an open and standardized admissions process, 725 of the brightest students are enrolled each year in the undergraduate program (session 2014–2015). On this lush campus, some 3000 students are pursuing higher education, including undergrads and graduates, with more than 200 eminent professors representing a wide range of specialties. Under the faculties, M.Sc. Engineering, M. Engineering, M.Phil., and PhD programs and research are all still being offered at the graduate level. A sizable number of international students attend the institution and continue their higher education on this campus. This university uses English as its primary language of instruction and assessment.
