Dental colleges and institutes in the private sector came into operation in 1995. Given the size of the population, it would be nearly impossible for the government to generate enough dentists on its own. Compared to India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Nepal, Bangladesh has six dentists per 100,000 people, compared to around 21, 11, 27, and 12 in other countries.
Therefore, it only became necessary for the decision-makers to take into account other strategies to meet the continuously increasing need. The first private sector ventures in this field were Pioneer Dental College, City Dental College, and University Dental College, all of which were connected with Dhaka University. Twelve non-government dental colleges are still operating in 2021 while facing significant difficulties. The dental industry in Bangladesh has significant growth and development potential, and the experts working in it may greatly improve the general well-being of the community.
